Since its creation in the mid-80's, Golden Girls has become a staple in American television. Favored for its humor, witty banter, and realistic situations, the show remains unparalleled in that, it offers a unique perspective on the dating lives of single, aging women that is rarely seen, even today.

However, in addition to the positive aspects of the show, it seems that it has also left the overall ideals of single women on television in a progressive time warp. Fox's Living Single, HBO's Sex and the City, & the UPN's/ CW's Girlfriends and the apparent recycling of various elements of the show, make it evident that television writers would prefer stick to their golden goose template rather than going for broke, trying to fix it.

The Golden Template

Synopsis- Four single women, living in a big city, exploring the many woes of dating. Along the way there are many obstacles which lead to self discovery as well as the testing and strengthening of bonds. The show ends when the main character either marries, or enters a serious relationship which seems to be likely headed towards marriage with an unlikely, recurring character.
